Indie films wage an ongoing war with major releases for awareness and promotion in a cluttered market space. It’s a war independent films are losing. Some cool films deserve to be seen in cinemas with an audience of fans. Films like REC2, the terrifying sequel to the horror hit REC.
REC2 will be released in a few New Zealand theatres on Black Friday (13 Nov), and I’m helping the distributor – Vendetta Films – to get the word out. The catch? They only have a few thousand to market it.
So I pitched Vendetta to let me give away 75% (Five Thousand Dollars Cash) to any individual(s) who promote (Buzz) the movie REC2 in the boldest and most innovative fashion. They said yes.
To be in to win the $5k all you need to do is use the untapped power of your mind. How’s that for a recession buster? For more information, read here and here.
After much deliberation and assessing all the buzz created for REC2 the esteemed judging panel have decided to split the prizes amongst a few sterling efforts. Originally we wanted to give the full amount to just one individual or team but it was virtually impossible to choose between the top contenders. They all did great work. Some others had incredible ideas that unfortunately just didn’t pay off in terms of buzz or hitting the right target audience for the film.
We hope that the winners are happy to split the winnings amongst themselves and the rest of the entrants at the very least had some fun in the process.
Congratulations to the following teams and the cash they won.
$1000 - Armageddon/ Compound joint campaign
$1000 - Christian Ranter & Thriller Street Campaign
$1000 - Team Jake Hijack/ Zombie Insurance
$500 - Zombie Bear
$500 - Running of Zombies Wellington Hijack
$500 - Robert Holt REC2 Mashups
$500 - Virus Warning Signs Guerilla Campaign
Thanks to everyone for participating. Judging is final and we need all teams to fire us their bank account details in an email.
The ultimate winner(s) will be announced on this site on November 30th. Due to the outstanding efforts of a few folks and the difficulty we are having in comparing multiple entries from various parties we may end up splitting the cash prize between a few participants (or not).
Thanks for being patient. We hope you’ve made it along to see the film.
It’s going to take us a little longer to judge all the entries of the competition.
People are still creating and submitting at the last minute and we really want to see if those entries catch fire. Ultimately they all help the release of the film which is what this is all about. So please don’t panic, we want to make sure that the final decisions are based on all relevant information.
Package up everything you have done for the [REC]2 BUZZ contest and send it in an email to me at [email@example.com]
Well done to all who participated. You have all supported the release of a cool film that might not have made it to the bigscreen without your innovative ideas.
DIGITAL BILLBOARD for ‘REC2 Running of the Zombies’ viral in downtown Wellington
This pic is on the digital billboard in a prime position on the James Smith corner of Cuba and Manners St in downtown Wellington. Over 25000 pedestrians a day walk past with a high dwell time!! I managed to hook this up with a friend’s media company Tentacle http://www.tentacle.co.nz/digital-billboards/
On another note, Spanish people seem to like the original web viral (on over 800 hits) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CQcyhcB0ao …they like it so much I discovered it on youtube in Spanish! - someone has hijacked the viral and framed it for a Spanish audience!
