The Rec2 $5K Buzz Challenge

Indie films wage an ongoing war with major releases for awareness and promotion in a cluttered market space. It’s a war independent films are losing. Some cool films deserve to be seen in cinemas with an audience of fans. Films like REC2, the terrifying sequel to the horror hit REC.

REC2 will be released in a few New Zealand theatres on Black Friday (13 Nov), and I’m helping the distributor – Vendetta Films – to get the word out. The catch? They only have a few thousand to market it.

So I pitched Vendetta to let me give away 75% (Five Thousand Dollars Cash) to any individual(s) who promote (Buzz) the movie REC2 in the boldest and most innovative fashion. They said yes.

Blood Blood Blood. After reading the rules and finding out that you couldn’t do anything illegal, we spent a day making the perfect batch of fake blood using an old family recipe. Then, in the dead of the night, we filled up a couple of milk bottles and got to work. This is just the beginning… much much much more to come. Judges Comment: Defacing someones elses property probably falls under BAD BUZZ (see rules). We also have no contact details from you regarding this which makes us think you possibly thought it was not kosher either. Wolfmother probably would dig it though

High Street Judges Comment: Look we admire the spirit in this endeavour but you may have crossed the line. I know Councils aren’t happy about footpath chalk advertising so I can’t imagine what they think about the use of fake blood. Again we have no contact details from you regarding this which makes us think you this may have been a BAD BUZZ idea.
